This policy covers the 4th Kuwait Obesity Conference mobile app for iPhone and Android. It describes everything the app does with information, and is written to match what the app actually does rather than to cover every eventuality.
The short version
Almost nothing leaves your phone. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. It does not ask you to create an account, and it does not know who you are unless you choose to verify your mobile number for the CME badge.
What stays on your device
The following are stored only on your phone. They are not sent to us, and we cannot read them. Deleting the app deletes them.
| Information | Why the app keeps it |
|---|---|
| Your mobile number | Derives your CME badge code, so the same number always produces the same badge, with or without a network connection |
| Sessions you save | Your personal schedule |
| Notes you write | Your notes on a session |
| Questions you write | So you can read a question back when the chair opens the floor |
| Photographs you take | The Snaps feature, for slides and the hall |
What the app sends
The app downloads the conference programme, faculty, sponsors and related content from app.medconfworld.com. That request carries no identifier of you or your device: it is the same request for every delegate, and returns the same public information the conference publishes on its website.
The app also opens links you tap — the conference website, the venue's telephone number, WhatsApp and Google Maps. Once you follow one of those, you are in that app or website and its own terms and privacy policy apply.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Asked when | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | The first time you take a photo in a session | Photographing a slide or the hall |
| Photo library | The first time you add a photo from your library | Choosing an existing photo |
You can decline either. The rest of the app works normally without them.
Verifying your number for the CME badge
The CME badge is unlocked with your mobile number. At present no verification message is sent and the number is not transmitted anywhere — the badge is generated on your device.
When SMS verification is switched on, your mobile number will be sent to the conference's messaging provider for the sole purpose of sending you a one-time code. This policy will be updated before that happens, and the app stores' privacy disclosures updated with it.
Attendance
Attendance is recorded by the organisers when your badge is scanned at the hall door. That record belongs to the conference and is used for CME accreditation. The app does not record your location and cannot tell where you are.
Children
The app is intended for delegates attending a medical conference. It is not directed at children.
Keeping or deleting your information
Because the information listed above never leaves your phone, you remove it by deleting it in the app or by uninstalling the app. There is no account to close.
For attendance and registration records held by the conference, contact the secretariat using the details below.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or about information the conference holds about you, can be sent to the conference secretariat. Contact details are on the conference website and in the app under Venue.
